| The economic
history of the Middle Kingdoms is a turbulent one, with so many small nations
in such close proximity. For example, between the years 2615 and
2973 the kingdoms of Lorvik and Flandal fought a series of bitter and destructive
wars over the exchange rate between the Lorvik Crag and the Flandal Sheaf.
In essense, the issue was whether the Crag was worth .997 Sheafs (as the
Lorviks claimed) or .992, as set by the Flandal Ministry of Tourist Propaganda.
Realizing that such issues could not possibly be left to individual governments
if the region was to successfully siphon tourist money from the more powerful
Outer Kingdoms, the Middle Kingdoms Fiscal Convention (signed in Common
Year 3266) established the Crown, with fifty-four Stars per Crown,
as the common currency of the Middle Kingdoms. As a result, there
have been no currency-related wars in the Middle Kingdoms for well over
one hundred and fifty years. That is, unless you count the "stabilization
actions" that the Fiscal Convention's Security Arm takes whenever some
upstart king decides to go off the Crown standard. And you won't,
if you know what's good for you.
On a side note, these are
perhaps the worst-drawn Canadian coins in all of comics history. |
